The Oyo State Government has imposed a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park as part of intensified efforts to rescue abducted schoolchildren and teachers and curb rising insecurity in the area.
Governor Seyi Makinde approved the restriction, which runs from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and takes effect immediately.
According to the state government, the curfew will remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours to support ongoing security operations around the national park.
The measure follows the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers during coordinated attacks on schools in communities within Oriire Local Government Area. The incident has heightened concerns over security in the state and prompted a stronger response from authorities.
Officials believe some of the victims may be held within the vast expanse of the Old Oyo National Park, a location that has posed significant challenges for rescue efforts due to its size and terrain.
The curfew is expected to restrict the movement of criminal elements, enhance surveillance in affected communities, and enable security agencies to carry out more effective search-and-rescue operations.
The Oyo State Government has urged residents of the affected local government areas to comply fully with the directive and cooperate with security personnel as efforts continue to secure the safe release of those still in captivity. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
