The Nigerian Army has completed the renovation and upgrade of the headquarters of the 81 Battalion, located at Letmauck Cantonment, Mokola Barracks in Ibadan, Oyo State, as part of ongoing efforts to improve troop welfare and operational efficiency.

The project, which was officially commissioned on Wednesday, also included the refurbishment of the Commanding Officer’s residence within the barracks.

Speaking at the event, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, said the upgrade reflects the Army’s continued commitment to enhancing the working and living conditions of its personnel.

He explained that the initiative aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s “Soldiers First” policy, which prioritises the welfare of troops as a key strategy for improving morale, discipline, and operational effectiveness.

According to him, providing a conducive environment for soldiers is essential to strengthening the Army’s overall readiness and performance in carrying out its duties.

The outgoing Commanding Officer of the 81 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Agaku, noted that the renovation became necessary following assessments that revealed the need to modernise existing infrastructure within the barracks.

The project included extensive structural and aesthetic improvements such as office refurbishment, roofing repairs, electrical and plumbing upgrades, installation of modern fittings, painting, and general environmental beautification.

The renovated headquarters now features improved administrative offices, a conference room, upgraded facilities, and enhanced security measures. The Commanding Officer’s residence was also upgraded with improved fencing, security enhancements, and modern living amenities.

Military officials described the project as part of broader efforts to strengthen welfare systems within the Army and ensure a more efficient and motivated force. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
