PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS MAJOR GENERAL ADEYINKA FAMADEWA (RTD) AS SPECIAL ADVISER ON HOMELAND SECURITY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa (Rtd) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

The appointment is in recognition of his extensive experience in military and intelligence operations, as well as his contributions to Nigeria’s national security architecture.

A statement issued from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, CON, said the appointment reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination and enhancing intelligence-driven operations across the country.

According to the statement, the administration is also focused on improving collaboration among security agencies to effectively address emerging security threats.

Major General Famadewa (Rtd), a highly decorated retired officer, has over three decades of service experience spanning counter-terrorism, intelligence coordination, and strategic security management. He previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) between 2015 and 2021.

During his tenure, he played a key role in strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework, including contributing to the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre, which integrates key security agencies such as the Defence Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

Following his retirement from active service, he served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, where he contributed to policy research and national security discourse. He is also known for his publication titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria.”

The Presidency expressed confidence that the appointment will further strengthen efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda to enhance national security coordination, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management.

He was urged to bring his wealth of experience to support the administration’s security objectives and improve operational effectiveness across relevant institutions.
