President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards and the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly.
The approval was announced during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President Patrice Motsepe. Also present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau, former NFF President Amaju Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation, the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is expected to hold in October and will bring together football administrators and stakeholders from across Africa. The CAF Awards ceremony remains one of the continent’s biggest football events, celebrating outstanding players, coaches, and teams in African football.
Nigeria previously hosted the CAF Awards in Lagos and Abuja, and officials believe the latest approval will further strengthen the country’s position as a major destination for continental sporting events and sports tourism.
