President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination has already been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.
Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down from office to pursue elective office ahead of the 2027 elections.
The nominee, who hails from Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with more than 35 years of experience across both the public and private sectors.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led several initiatives on fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation and governance. He also advised government institutions and private sector organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks and investment structuring.
Tegbe is currently the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he oversees efforts aimed at strengthening bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and China.
The NCSP also coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders to promote economic and social development in line with the objectives of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
According to the presidency, Tegbe has extensive experience in the power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
The presidency expressed confidence that his appointment would strengthen ongoing reforms in the power sector, improve grid stability and attract sustainable investment in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Tinubu also expressed optimism that the minister-designate, if confirmed by the Senate, would deploy his expertise toward advancing critical reforms and improving service delivery in Nigeria’s power sector.
