President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after polling 10,999,162 votes in the party’s nationwide presidential primary election conducted across the country.

The APC chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, presented the President with the party’s symbolic flag and certificate of return at the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Sunday, formally confirming him as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 general election.

Speaking after accepting the nomination, President Tinubu pledged to consolidate ongoing economic reforms and strengthen Nigeria’s development in a second term. He said another four years would place the country on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, infrastructure development, food sufficiency, and democratic consolidation.

The Chairman of the APC Presidential Election Committee, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, announced the results in the presence of National Assembly members, serving and former governors, ministers, presidential aides, party stalwarts, members of the National Working Committee, and other party executives.

According to Anyim, Stanley Osifo, the second presidential aspirant, secured 16,503 votes. He stated that the primaries were conducted in line with the procedures of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Electoral Act, and the APC constitution across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, 774 local government areas, and 8,809 wards.

He further disclosed that 12,643,316 party members were registered for the exercise, while 11,069,746 were accredited and 11,015,665 cast their votes. The votes were later collated in Abuja by designated collation officers, most of whom were governors from different states.

Anyim described the process as fair and transparent, noting that agents of both aspirants were given the opportunity to challenge results and seek redress where necessary.

President Tinubu also commended governors, members of the National Assembly, the APC National Executive Council, the National Working Committee, and party members for giving him another opportunity to represent the party in the forthcoming election.

Highlighting achievements of his administration, the President said the economy had undergone major structural reforms backed by new tax laws and fiscal policies that improved revenue generation. He also pointed to the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, revealing that over N282 billion had been disbursed to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries.
