President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has intervened in the leadership crisis rocking the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), following attempts by some governors to remove Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as chairman of the forum.
The intervention came after reports emerged that a faction within the forum had allegedly replaced Uzodimma with Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, sparking tension among governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, at an emergency meeting held in Abuja, 18 APC governors reaffirmed their confidence in Uzodimma’s leadership and dismissed reports of division within the forum.
Governors from Lagos, Kaduna, Borno, Ebonyi, Kogi, Kano, Taraba, Yobe, Sokoto, Kebbi, Benue, Jigawa, Ondo and Nasarawa states were among those present or represented at the meeting.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, moved a vote of confidence in Uzodimma and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, who serves as deputy chairman of the forum.
Speaking after the meeting, Idris insisted there was no crisis within the forum and described reports of factionalisation as misinformation.
The development comes amid growing political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with APC governors recently backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term bid.
