The consensus arrangement within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has produced 32 candidates for the State House of Assembly elections, following primaries held under a largely unified process.
Party stakeholders described the exercise as a move aimed at reducing internal conflicts and strengthening cohesion ahead of the next electoral cycle. The consensus method reportedly involved consultations among key party leaders and aspirants, leading to the emergence of a single list of candidates across the 32 constituencies.
According to party sources, the arrangement is also seen as part of broader efforts to stabilise the political structure of the APC in Rivers State, where leadership tensions have previously shaped internal party dynamics. The development has been welcomed by some stakeholders who argue it could improve the party’s chances in the general election.
However, analysts note that while consensus reduces primary-election disputes, it may still require strong grassroots mobilisation to translate into electoral success across the state.
