President Joe Biden has canceled his planned trip to Italy to prioritize the federal response to the devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles, which have destroyed hundreds of homes and forced thousands to evacuate.
“After returning this evening from Los Angeles, where he met with police, fire, and emergency personnel earlier today, President Biden decided to cancel his upcoming trip to Italy to remain focused on directing the full federal response in the coming days,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.
Biden was originally scheduled to visit Italy from Thursday to Sunday, which was expected to be his last overseas trip as president.
