Nigerian music legend Innocent ‘2Baba’ Idibia has ignited a storm of controversy after posting a video on his Instagram confirming his separation from wife Annie Macaulay. The video, in which he spoke in Pidgin English, revealed that the decision was his own, as he stated, “My people, nobody hack my account, na me talk wetin I wan talk, understand. I come in peace.”

This followed an earlier Instagram post, since deleted, in which the singer announced their separation and ongoing divorce proceedings. The post, written in the form of a heartfelt message to his followers, read: “Hello to my beautiful people of all federations. Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long… Annie Macaulay and I have been separated for a while now and have currently filed for divorce. I will grant a press release soon to say my story, not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life, but because I love my people and I need them to know my innocence or offense. Stay blessed my people. I love you all.”

However, shortly after the divorce announcement, another post on 2Baba’s Instagram claimed that his account had been hacked. “My Instagram account has been hacked, efforts are being carried out to take back control. #OneLove!” the post read, leading to confusion about the authenticity of the initial divorce announcement.

The couple, who have been together for over two decades, have faced public struggles in their marriage. In 2021, Annie caused a stir when she removed her husband’s surname from her Instagram bio, sparking rumors of marital issues. She later reinstated the name, but tension between the two continued to make headlines.

Annie has also previously accused 2Baba of maintaining inappropriate relationships with his first baby mama, Pero Adeniyi, with whom he has three children. Annie had claimed that 2Baba was spending nights at Pero’s home under the guise of visiting their children, further fueling the public’s speculation about the couple’s troubled relationship.

The couple’s challenges were further intensified by public clashes with 2Baba’s family. Annie has called out 2Baba’s family members, including his brother Hyacinth, who she accused of housing both 2Baba and Pero under the same roof. In the past, 2Baba had spoken lovingly about Annie, recalling how she stood by him during difficult times. “When I used to repeat just three sets of clothes, she would always hold my head, look me in the eyes, and tell me things will be fine one day. When I wasn’t handsome, she would call me her prince charming. When I wasn’t celebrated, she called me her king and said she is my number one fan and to this day, she still is,” he once said.
