Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced that it will refund customers who purchase Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at prices higher than the advertised rates from its key distribution partners—AP (Ardova Plc), Heyden, and MRS—across Nigeria.
This decision follows the refinery’s recent reduction of its gantry price from N890 per litre to N825 per litre as part of efforts to ensure Nigerians benefit from the price cut. The move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to stimulate economic growth and promote self-sufficiency in critical sectors like energy.
In a statement released over the weekend, Dangote Refinery confirmed that it will refund N65 per litre on over 200,000 metric tonnes of PMS purchased by marketers at the previous gantry price of N890 per litre before the adjustment to N825 per litre. To facilitate this, the refinery is absorbing a N16 billion loss, ensuring that marketers do not incur financial setbacks and that the new lower price reaches consumers immediately.
“The step, effective February 27, 2025, ensures that none of our valued business partners suffer losses due to the price change. More importantly, it guarantees that Nigerians benefit from affordable fuel without delay,” the statement read.
Ensuring Fair Pricing for Consumers
Dangote Refinery emphasized that this initiative extends beyond its major partners—MRS, Ardova Plc (AP), and Heyden—urging all marketers sourcing fuel from the refinery to pass on the savings to consumers. It also warned against price exploitation, condemning any attempt to sell PMS at excessive prices for personal gain.
“It is unpatriotic and harmful to Nigerians for any party to buy fuel at N825 per litre and then sell to consumers at N945 or more per litre. This amounts to excessive profiteering and places an undue financial burden on the public,” the refinery stated.
To protect consumers, Dangote Refinery is encouraging those who pay above the advertised rates at any AP, Heyden, or MRS outlet in Nigeria to report the overcharge with their receipt to receive a full refund of the excess amount.
Approved PMS Prices Across Regions
Dangote Refinery has set the following maximum pump prices for its distribution partners:
• MRS: N860 (Lagos), N870 (South-West), N880 (North), N890 (South-South & South-East)
• Heyden & AP: N865 (Lagos), N875 (South-West), N885 (North), N895 (South-South & South-East)
With the new gantry price at N825 per litre, the refinery expects that no Nigerian should pay more than N900 per litre for PMS, regardless of location or fuel station.
Commitment to Energy Security & Economic Growth
Dangote Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-quality, eco-friendly fuel that enhances vehicle performance and promotes public health. It also pledged to support Nigeria’s economic growth by ensuring access to affordable, high-quality energy solutions.
“Our mission aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes energy self-sufficiency. We are dedicated to ensuring every Nigerian benefits from sustainable and affordable fuel,” the statement added.
The refinery concluded by emphasizing that this initiative is just one of many ways Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals is contributing to Nigeria’s economic prosperity, ensuring lasting energy security and a more sustainable future for all.
