The Lagos State Police Command has ruled out terrorism and the use of explosive devices in connection with the explosion that occurred in the Mushin area of Lagos, saying forensic investigations found no evidence of a bomb attack.
In a statement issued after a comprehensive investigation, the police said experts found no traces of explosive materials, detonators, initiation systems, explosive residues, or blast patterns typically associated with terrorist attacks.
Instead, investigators determined that the incident resulted from the catastrophic failure of a pressurised mechanical component located outside a vehicle.
According to the police, the sudden release of pressure generated enough force to shatter the vehicle’s front passenger-side windows, leaving the owner with only minor injuries.
The explosion, which occurred on Wey Street in the Oke Mushin area, initially sparked panic among residents and traders amid fears that it was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED).
However, the command said its findings have conclusively ruled out terrorism or any criminal use of explosives.
Authorities have since classified the incident as a mechanical explosion and urged members of the public to remain calm while avoiding the spread of unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
