Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Navy has intensified its fight against oil theft and smuggling, leading to the seizure of 76 vessels involved in illegal maritime activities over the past two years. This effort is part of the administration’s broader drive to secure Nigeria’s natural resources and protect national revenue.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, confirmed the achievement during a briefing, noting that the Navy’s increased patrols and surveillance have significantly reduced the scale of crude oil theft in Nigeria’s coastal waters. He credited the Renewed Hope Agenda for enhancing inter-agency collaboration and investing in new naval assets that made the operations more effective.
This sustained crackdown reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to economic stability, energy security, and restoring investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil sector. The administration continues to prioritize transparency, accountability, and the safeguarding of national assets from sabotage and illegal exploitation.
