Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has lauded the Nigerian Army for its relentless campaign against crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, saying the military’s operations have strengthened security and helped boost Nigeria’s crude oil production.
The governor gave the commendation while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Government House in Port Harcourt during activities marking the Nigerian Army Day Celebration.
According to Fubara, the Army’s sustained crackdown on oil thieves and illegal bunkering operators has led to improved protection of critical oil infrastructure, reduced economic sabotage, and enhanced safety across Rivers State.
He noted that the successes recorded by the military have not only restored confidence in the state’s security architecture but have also contributed to increased national oil output and revenue generation.
Fubara also praised the Nigerian Army for selecting Rivers State as the host of this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration, describing the choice as a reflection of the state’s peaceful atmosphere and growing stability.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, the governor pledged continued collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to sustain peace, protect national assets, and promote economic development.
Responding, the Chief of Army Staff expressed appreciation to the Rivers State Government for its support and hospitality, assuring that the Nigerian Army would remain resolute in its fight against crude oil theft and other threats to national security while fostering stronger civil-military relations.
