In a significant boost to Nigeria’s global defence profile, the country has been ranked 3rd in Africa and 31st in the world in the latest Global Firepower Military Strength Index. This marks a remarkable leap from its 39th global position just a year ago, reflecting notable gains in military capability and national security.

The improved ranking is widely seen as a testament to the proactive and strategic leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration has prioritized military modernization, increased defence spending, and reinforced the capacity of security agencies.

Under his command as Commander-in-Chief, Nigeria has procured new equipment, strengthened personnel training, and intensified counterterrorism efforts, particularly in the North-East and North-West. These efforts align with President Tinubu’s broader security vision under the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at restoring peace, protecting sovereignty, and boosting regional influence.

Nigeria’s upward movement in the military strength index not only reflects growing national capability but also positions the country as a key stabilizing force on the African continent.
