In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government has extended the transformative Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) to the North West region. The initiative aims to lift thousands of women out of poverty, strengthen gender inclusion, and improve livelihoods in rural communities.

Initially launched in six states: Abia, Kebbi, Ogun, Niger, Taraba, and Edo, the project has now been expanded to additional states, including Sokoto, Jigawa, Kano, and Borno. It is designed to economically empower women by providing financial literacy, life skills, access to grants, and cooperative support systems, particularly through Women Affinity Groups (WAGs).

Funded through a World Bank credit facility, the project has already reached over 416,000 women and established 17,400 WAGs across pilot states. With the North West expansion, the government targets thousands more to benefit from capacity building, agricultural support, and business development services.

Speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, Minister of Women Affairs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that the expansion demonstrates the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development.

“This project supports the economic resilience of Nigerian women, especially in rural areas. It reflects Mr. President’s vision of harnessing the full potential of our population, particularly the women who form the backbone of our communities,” she said.

Under President Tinubu’s leadership, the Nigeria for Women Project has become a cornerstone of Nigeria’s strategy to reduce rural poverty, promote social cohesion, and accelerate national development through inclusive economic empowerment.
