Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and media entrepreneur, Dele Momodu, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to refrain from elevating Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, despite any political advantages he might offer ahead of the 2027 elections. In a sharp rebuttal to Wike’s recent remarks on Politics Today, Momodu warned against empowering someone he described as unfit to handle national resources and responsibility.
“My appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is that no matter what you are expecting to gain from Wike in 2027, Wike is not the kind of character you should promote,” Momodu stated, accusing the former Rivers governor of misusing the privileges of public office. He suggested that Wike’s political transformation began when he first tasted power as a local government chairman, which intensified with increasing access to state resources.
Momodu, who claimed to have once been close to Wike, traced the deterioration of their relationship to their rivalry during the PDP’s 2023 presidential primary. He alleged that Wike had once respected Rotimi Amaechi but lost perspective after gaining political power and wealth, describing Wike’s evolution as driven by “the spirit of money” that often follows power in Nigeria.
The Ovation Magazine publisher said Wike benefited from his media expertise and reputation management before their fallout, recalling how he supported Wike’s image during his time as Rivers State governor. He described their friendship as irreparably broken, asserting that Wike’s conduct now stands at odds with the values needed for national leadership.
