In a major step toward modernizing Nigeria’s digital governance, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), under the supervision of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, has flagged off a two-day workshop to co-create Nigeria’s first National Web Design Standards (NWDS) for public institutions.

The initiative, supported by the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, aims to unify the design, accessibility, and branding of government websites across the country. Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said the project will help close the trust gap between citizens and government by ensuring every public-facing digital platform delivers a user-friendly and reliable experience.

NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, noted that the design standards will cover navigation, layout, branding, and accessibility, with the goal of transforming the current fragmented system into a cohesive digital ecosystem. The standards, once finalized, will be enforced through future policies and compliance mechanisms.

This development is a key part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s digital transformation agenda, designed to improve service delivery, foster public trust, and align Nigeria’s e-governance practices with global standards.
