President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled an ambitious national plan to produce four million tonnes of green ammonia each year by 2060, as part of his administration’s drive to promote clean energy and strengthen Nigeria’s fertilizer production capacity.
The initiative is a key pillar of the country’s climate and energy transition strategy, aiming to position Nigeria as a continental leader in sustainable energy solutions while reducing dependence on carbon-based fuels.
Green ammonia, which is critical for both renewable energy and modern agriculture, will support domestic use and generate export revenue, contributing to economic growth and environmental protection.
The Tinubu administration described the plan as a bold step under the Renewed Hope Agenda to secure Nigeria’s energy future, support food security, and advance a greener, more prosperous economy.
