Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing arm of Amazon, has announced significant expansions in the Asia-Pacific region, aiming to bolster its infrastructure and support the growing demand for cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) services.()
New Data Centers in Taiwan and Singapore
In June 2025, AWS launched the Asia Pacific (Taipei) Region, marking its 15th infrastructure region in Asia Pacific. This new region, identified as ap-east-2, comprises three Availability Zones, enhancing AWS’s ability to provide low-latency services and support data sovereignty requirements for customers in Taiwan. The expansion is expected to attract a diverse range of industries, including technology, finance, and manufacturing, to leverage AWS’s scalable cloud solutions.
Concurrently, AWS inaugurated its first 8,000-square-foot Innovation Hub in Asia Pacific, located at the AWS corporate office in downtown Singapore. This multi-million-dollar facility is designed to accelerate digital and AI transformation for public and private sector organizations across the region. The hub will annually engage over 1,000 C-suite leaders and 200 students from local tertiary education institutions, providing them with immersive experiences and practical roadmaps for adopting AWS and Amazon technologies. This initiative is part of AWS’s broader commitment to invest US$9 billion into cloud infrastructure in Singapore by 2028.
Strategic Partnerships and Investments
AWS’s expansion efforts are further supported by strategic partnerships in the region. In India, AWS has committed to investing US$8.3 billion in developing cloud infrastructure for its Asia-Pacific (Mumbai) Region in Maharashtra. This investment aims to enhance AWS’s capabilities in supporting AI workloads and meeting the growing demand for cloud services in the country.
Additionally, AWS has collaborated with Tata Communications in India to establish an advanced AI-ready network. This partnership seeks to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure by integrating cutting-edge AI capabilities, supporting AI-driven innovation and digital transformation across various industries.
These expansions and partnerships underscore AWS’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the Asia-Pacific region and supporting the digital transformation of businesses through scalable and innovative cloud solutions.
