The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, has launched the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) programme, a World Bank-supported initiative focused on driving inclusive economic growth through investment in Nigeria’s human capital.

The inaugural meeting of the National Steering Committee was chaired by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, with participation from other key Federal Executive Council members including the Ministers of Education, Health and Women Affairs.

Mr Edun described HOPE as central to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic agenda, targeting reforms in healthcare, education and governance. He emphasised the President’s vision that prosperity must be inclusive and benefit all Nigerians.

With five states and the Federal Capital Territory already participating, the Minister urged others to join quickly, noting Africa’s growing share of the global workforce over the next 30 years. He also called for the speedy passage of the Boreum Plan, which provides the financial framework for state-led delivery of primary healthcare, education and social development.

Through HOPE, the Federal Government is reaffirming its commitment to human capital as the foundation for sustainable national progress under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
