American Airlines is expanding its international footprint with the announcement of six new and returning long-haul routes for the summer 2026 season, including the launch of nonstop service to Budapest and the return of flights to Prague.
Beginning May 21, 2026, American will introduce nonstop service from Philadelphia (PHL) to Budapest (BUD). This will be the only direct flight between the United States and the Hungarian capital since LOT Polish Airlines ended its New York to Budapest route in 2022. The route will be operated with Boeing 787 8 aircraft.
On the same date, American will also resume its seasonal service between Philadelphia and Prague (PRG), using the same modern widebody aircraft. Both routes are aimed at meeting strong summer demand for travel to Central Europe.
Other highlights from American’s 2026 international schedule include:
Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) to Athens (ATH)
A new seasonal route beginning May 21, 2026.
Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) to Zurich (ZRH)
Limited seasonal service operating from May 21 to August 4, 2026, with Boeing 777 200 aircraft.
Miami (MIA) to Milan (MXP)
New year round daily service starting March 29, 2026.
Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) to Buenos Aires (EZE)
Extended seasonal service running from May 21 to August 3, 2026, operated by Boeing 787 8.
The additions are part of American’s broader international strategy to meet growing demand for leisure travel, particularly in the summer months. With major global events like the FIFA World Cup expected to boost travel in 2026, the airline is positioning itself to capture increased passenger traffic.
Tickets will go on sale August 11, 2025, through the American Airlines website and mobile app.
This expansion marks a significant step in American’s recovery and growth, as it strengthens its presence in key transatlantic and South American markets.
