Boniface: I’d Play for a Nigerian Club to Escape Europe’s ‘Boring’ Life

Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface says he would gladly play for a Nigerian club if given the chance, just to escape what he calls the “boring” lifestyle of Europe.

Speaking on The Culture League Podcast — which he co-hosts with Super Eagles teammates Wilfred Ndidi and Raphael Onyedika — Boniface revealed he would choose Lagos as his preferred destination, even naming the now-defunct MFM FC as a team he would have liked to join.

“I will play for MFM in Lagos,” the 24-year-old said. “If Nigeria was like a six-hour drive to Germany, I’d stay here and drive every morning to train and play in Germany. Europe is boring.”

Asked what he misses most about home, Boniface cited food, family, and friends. “Not just the food — life close to family and friends, you understand,” he added.

The striker recently confirmed he would remain with the 2023 Bundesliga champions despite rumours about his future. Leverkusen begin their new season at home to Hoffenheim on August 23.
