Family Rejects Appointment of Female Regent in Ekiti Community

Share

The Aba Atiba Chieftaincy family of Aramoko Ekiti has formally rejected the installation of a female regent in their community. They have called upon the Ooni of Ife and Governor Abiodun Oyebanji to intervene in the matter.

The family contends that the move to appoint a female regent is not in accordance with their traditional customs and practices. They argue that the installation process was conducted without proper consultation and approval from the relevant traditional authorities.

This development has sparked a debate about gender roles in traditional leadership positions within Ekiti State. While some advocate for the inclusion of women in such roles, others emphasize the importance of adhering to established traditions. The outcome of this dispute may set a precedent for similar cases in the region.()
