Reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Remo Stars, have confirmed the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta as their temporary home ground ahead of the 2024/25 season, The PUNCH reports.
The decision comes as renovation works continue at the club’s Ikenne stadium. In a statement on Monday, the Sky Blue Stars urged fans to rally behind them in Abeokuta.
“Due to ongoing renovations at our stadium in Ikenne, the club can confirm a temporary home ground, the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta,” the statement read. “Come through, make some noise, and let’s turn Abeokuta into a fortress together. A return home is however imminent.”
Remo Stars will open their title defence on Saturday against last season’s runners-up Rivers United, before travelling to Owerri to face newly-promoted Kun-Khalifat. They return to Abeokuta for their third fixture against Warri Wolves.
The Abeokuta venue could also host their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie against Comoros side US Zilimadjou, scheduled between September 19 and 21. Victory would set up a clash with South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the final qualifying round.
Remo Stars clinched their maiden NPFL crown last season with 71 points, finishing seven clear of Rivers United after narrowly missing out on the title in the two previous campaigns.
