Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a distinguished career that spanned more than a decade.

The 36-year-old, who last featured for two-time CAF Champions League winners Enyimba, confirmed his decision in an emotional message on Tuesday, describing it as one taken with “mixed emotions” after deep reflection.

Ideye expressed gratitude to agents, journalists, coaches, teammates, and fans who supported him throughout his journey across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. His club career saw him play for sides such as Dynamo Kyiv, West Bromwich Albion, and Olympiakos, where he enjoyed success and scored memorable goals.

On the international stage, Ideye was part of Nigeria’s squad that lifted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa under the late Stephen Keshi — a triumph that secured his place in the nation’s football history.

“The game gave me everything — incredible joy, sad days, the opportunity to travel and see the world, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories,” he reflected, while describing it as an honour to wear the Super Eagles shirt.

Though stepping away from the pitch, Ideye promised football would remain central to his life as he prepares for the next chapter. His retirement marks the close of a career defined by resilience, professionalism, and success — leaving behind a legacy to inspire future generations of Nigerian players.
