Nigeria and Brazil have signed a Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA), clearing the way for direct flights between the two countries.

The agreement was signed in Brasília by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Brazil’s Minister of Transport, Silvio Costa Filho, in the presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

According to a statement by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Tunde Moshood, the BASA marks a strategic milestone in President Tinubu’s administration’s drive to expand Nigeria’s global partnerships and create an enabling environment for commerce, investment, and mobility.

The agreement is expected to strengthen economic integration, foster cultural ties, and enhance diplomatic cooperation between both nations. Leaders of the two countries welcomed the development, affirming their readiness to deepen collaboration in aviation, agriculture, infrastructure, and other critical sectors. With the direct flights, travel time between Nigeria and Brazil will be significantly reduced, further cementing ties between the two largest economies in Africa and South America.
