The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has lauded troops of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and other security agencies for the successful rescue of students and teachers abducted during the recent terrorist attack on Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Aneke, who described the operation as a major boost to ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the North-East, said the rescue reflected the effectiveness of joint military operations and the professionalism of personnel involved.
He noted that feedback from one of the rescued victims indicated that sustained air strikes forced the terrorists to abandon their positions, creating an opportunity for the captives to escape before ground troops secured the area.
The Air Chief stressed that the outcome of the operation underscored the importance of air power in supporting ground forces and protecting vulnerable communities from terrorist attacks.
While commending the troops for their courage and dedication, Aneke directed commanders to sustain offensive operations against terrorist groups, insisting that continuous military pressure remains critical to degrading their capabilities and restoring lasting peace in the region.
The rescue operation followed the attack on Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, where terrorists invaded the school during examinations and abducted several students and teachers. Security agencies have since intensified efforts to rescue those still in captivity and ensure the safety of residents in the affected community.
Reaffirming the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to national security, the Chief of the Air Staff assured Nigerians that the service would continue to work closely with other security agencies to eliminate terrorist threats and safeguard lives and property across the country.
