The Nigerian government has opened discussions with Switzerland on the return of looted artefacts, including historic monoliths and bronze pieces, currently held in Swiss museums.
The talks mark another step in Nigeria’s global campaign to reclaim cultural treasures taken during colonial times and housed abroad. Switzerland becomes one of several European nations Nigeria has engaged in negotiations with, following similar efforts involving Germany, the UK, and Belgium.
Officials say the discussions will focus on the framework for transfer, preservation, and potential collaborations between Nigerian institutions and Swiss museums to ensure the artefacts are returned while fostering cultural exchange.
