The much-anticipated reconciliation meeting between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) and the management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery ended without resolution after nearly nine hours of deliberation. Convened by the Federal Government, the meeting began at 4 p.m. on Monday and stretched into the early hours of Tuesday but failed to break the deadlock in the ongoing industrial dispute.
The session, presided over by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammed Dingyadi, and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, was aimed at finding common ground between the union and the refinery following days of strikes and blockades at key oil and gas facilities across the country. However, both parties remained firmly on their positions, with no compromise reached.
Speaking after the stalemate, Dingyadi announced that the meeting would reconvene at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in a renewed effort to resolve the crisis. The industrial dispute, centred on the refinery’s dismissal of hundreds of workers, has sparked nationwide concern over potential disruptions in the petroleum sector.
