Neon, an artificial intelligence-powered browser that can execute tasks and run code inside web pages, adding to the intensifying competition among technology firms to make web browsing more agentic.

The move underscores the race to transform the browser into a productivity hub that acts on behalf of users rather than just delivering search results. Perplexity AI released its Comet browser earlier this year, while The Browser Company, the maker of Arc, launched Dia.

The development of this recent solution was first introduced in May, though the browser was initially closed. As of September 30th, the company began sending invitations to select users who can try Neon with a subscription priced at $19.99 per month.

The new Opera browser can write small code snippets, useful for creating visual reports with tables and charts.

Neon features Cards, enabling repeated execution of the same prompt. The Tasks tab organization tool allows for the creation of isolated workspaces.

Some other features include “Tasks”, which create self-contained workspaces for AI to analyze a lot of sources, and “Cards”, reusable prompt instructions that automate repetitive workflows. Opera said all actions take place locally, giving users authority over when the AI model acts or pauses.
