The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has called on passengers to remain vigilant and speak up against reckless driving, following a fatal road crash that claimed 10 lives and injured 11 others on Friday night, October 10, 2025. The tragic incident occurred along the Obajana–Lokoja route, specifically at Apamaru, and has reignited nationwide concern over rising cases of night-time road accidents.
According to preliminary findings from the FRSC crash investigation team, the accident was triggered by speed violation and wrongful overtaking, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle during a night journey. The Corps Marshal expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and emphasized that dangerous driving habits — particularly at night — continue to be among the leading causes of road fatalities across Nigeria.
Mohammed urged both drivers and passengers to take greater responsibility for safety on the roads, stressing that silence in the face of reckless driving can be deadly. He also reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to intensifying enforcement on overloading and ramping up advocacy campaigns to discourage night travel on critical routes nationwide. “Passengers must be proactive — your voice can save lives,” he said.
