In a major political development, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), along with 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

The announcement was confirmed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, who disclosed that the decision followed extensive consultations with key political stakeholders within and outside the state.

Sources close to the government revealed that Governor Diri and the lawmakers are set to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming days, marking a significant shift in Bayelsa’s political landscape. The move is expected to further strengthen the APC’s presence in the South-South region.

Reactions have continued to trail the development, with analysts describing it as one of the most consequential political realignments in recent years. Party leaders at both the state and national levels are reportedly preparing for an official declaration ceremony in Yenagoa.
