Top agriculture experts, policymakers, and innovators will gather in Umuahia from October 21 to 25, 2025, for the 59th Annual Conference of the Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN). Themed “Advancing Innovative Technologies, Skills and Digital Economy for Livelihood Diversification in Agriculture,” the event aims to accelerate Nigeria’s shift from traditional to digital farming.

Hosted by the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) in collaboration with the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), the conference will highlight emerging technologies and agritech innovations driving agricultural transformation.

ASN President, Prof. Jude Mbanasor, said Nigeria must move beyond “crude and analogue methods” to achieve food security and competitiveness.

“Digital agriculture is the future. This conference will set the tone for technology-driven growth in our sector,” he said.

Key dignitaries expected include Senator Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security; Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, Vice Chancellor of MOUAU; and Prof. Chiedozie Egesi, Executive Director of NRCRI.

Highlights include paper presentations, exhibitions, and awards recognizing excellence in agricultural innovation. The event supports the Federal Government’s ongoing digital transformation agenda, including the Nigeria Agricultural Intelligence Platform (NAIP) initiative.

As delegates convene in Umuahia, the focus remains clear: transforming Nigeria’s agriculture from analogue to digital, and from subsistence to sustainability.
