Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, the member representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2027, a rare decision in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Dasuki described his choice as a personal sacrifice to create room for younger Nigerians to take up leadership positions. He explained that his decision followed wide consultations with his team, his leader, his family, and his conscience, noting that it was inspired by the vision of generational renewal.
“After due consultation, I have decided not to seek re-election to the House of Representatives in 2027. This is not out of fatigue or disillusionment, but out of belief, belief in a future led by young Nigerians,” he said.
Dasuki, who has served in public office since 2011 in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, the House of Representatives, and as a member of the State Executive Council, said his decision aligns with the goals of the Future Is Now Project, a youth advocacy initiative he helped establish.
The project, launched on October 1, 2025, during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, calls for 70 percent of House of Representatives seats to be occupied by Nigerians under 40 years of age in the next general elections.
“As the interim chairman and promoter of the Future Is Now Project, I cannot ignore the message we put forward. If we are to give meaning to our words, then we must be willing to make sacrifices,” Dasuki noted.
He expressed gratitude to his political mentor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for his guidance and support throughout his political journey, and thanked his constituents for their trust over the years.
Dasuki’s announcement has sparked conversation across political circles, with many observers describing his move as an act of political maturity and selflessness rarely seen among Nigerian politicians.
Now, the big question many are asking is:
Can other Nigerian politicians do what Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki just did?
Can they make the same sacrifice to allow younger Nigerians take their place in leadership?
As Nigeria moves toward the 2027 general elections, Dasuki’s decision may become a defining moment, a test of sincerity for politicians who often speak of youth inclusion but rarely act on it.
