The Federal Government has disbursed fertiliser worth ₦450 million to farmers in Jigawa State as part of its ongoing efforts to boost agricultural productivity under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Governor Umar Namadi announced the initiative during a Citizens’ Engagement Programme held in Miga Local Government Area. He disclosed that 20 trucks of fertiliser have been allocated to the state and will be sold to farmers at highly subsidised rates to ease the cost of production and improve access to critical farming inputs.

“This initiative is designed to support our hardworking farmers, reduce their input costs, and ultimately boost food production across Jigawa State,” Governor Namadi stated.

To complement the Federal Government’s intervention, the Jigawa State Government has approved ₦396 million to support the fertiliser scheme. The allocation covers 12,000 bags of NPK fertiliser, which will be distributed at a subsidised price of ₦33,000 per bag.

Governor Namadi also unveiled plans to establish a Farm Service Mechanisation Company that will provide affordable access to modern farming equipment such as tractors, planters, and harvesters, with the goal of expanding mechanised agriculture in the state.

The fertiliser initiative forms part of the 2025/2026 Dry Season Agricultural Programme, aimed at improving crop yield, strengthening food security, and promoting agribusiness development in Jigawa State.

At the national level, agricultural stakeholders have continued to advocate for reduced input costs and greater investment in mechanisation to sustain Nigeria’s agricultural growth and ensure food sufficiency. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
