President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to establishing a credible, secure, and verifiable national identity management system, describing it as fundamental to achieving Nigeria’s developmental goals.
Speaking at the State House during the official launch of the NINAuth App, a digital mobile based identity authentication platform developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), President Tinubu said the initiative marks a new milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
He noted that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the government is leveraging technology to promote efficiency, transparency, and accountability in governance. The President assured that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will soon adopt the new application for staff and data verification.
“A credible and inclusive National Identity Management System is fundamental to our national development goals,” President Tinubu stated. “It supports financial inclusion, strengthens social welfare delivery, enhances our security architecture, and ensures accurate population data for evidence based planning.”
The President emphasized that the NINAuth App will simplify access to essential services, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and help curb corruption by ensuring every Nigerian and legal resident benefits from a unified National Identity Database.
Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, commended the President’s visionary leadership, stating that the Renewed Hope Agenda is already solving tomorrow’s problems with technology. He added that identity management is the backbone of governance, national security, and service delivery.
Also speaking, the Director General of NIMC, Engr (Dr) Abisoye Coker Odusote, explained that the NINAuth App will eliminate multiple data entries, ensure real time verification, and enhance the credibility of both government and private sector operations.
According to her, NIMC has so far enrolled 126,717,316 individuals, with about 25 million of the total recorded within the last two years, resulting in an average of 1.3 million verification hits per day.
