Chairman of the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called on Nigerians both at home and abroad to unite in response to the recent classification of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” by U.S. President Donald Trump. The NIDCOM boss, referencing statements issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urged calm and solidarity, stressing that Nigerians must work collectively to defend the nation’s image against what she described as misleading narratives.

Jocomms Correspondent reports that Dabiri-Erewa reaffirmed Nigeria’s reputation as a country founded on tolerance, diversity, and democratic values. She dismissed what she termed a “conspiracy theory” portraying Nigeria as a nation targeting Christians, emphasizing that such depictions are far from reality. “Nigeria is not a country that persecutes any group. Our strength lies in our diversity and the freedom our Constitution guarantees to every citizen,” she stated, urging Nigerians in the diaspora to continue promoting a positive image of the country through engagement and factual advocacy.

Reiterating President Tinubu’s firm stance, Dabiri-Erewa assured that the administration remains unwavering in its commitment to religious liberty and mutual respect among all faiths. She noted that the government is actively working with international partners to address misconceptions and strengthen interfaith understanding. As tensions simmer following Trump’s controversial statement, the question now is—can Nigeria turn this moment of global scrutiny into an opportunity to showcase its unity and resilience?
