Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Belem, Brazil, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) taking place in the Brazilian Amazon.

The high-level global summit brings together world leaders, policymakers, and environmental experts to advance discussions on tackling the worsening impacts of climate change.

During the conference, Vice President Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement on climate action, outlining the Tinubu administration’s strategies for achieving carbon neutrality, boosting renewable energy investment, and enhancing climate resilience.

He will also participate in key negotiations on climate finance, forest conservation, and the implementation of the Paris Agreement, alongside other heads of state and government representatives.

COP30, hosted in one of the world’s most vital ecological regions, aims to accelerate global efforts toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting biodiversity. Nigeria’s delegation is expected to use the platform to advocate for increased international support for developing nations most affected by climate change impacts.
