President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced plans to significantly increase investment in Nigeria’s defence sector to strengthen national security and enhance military capabilities.
Speaking at the National Defence College in Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing the armed forces, improving personnel welfare, and supporting advanced training for strategic officers to tackle evolving security challenges.
The president also highlighted plans to promote indigenous arms production through the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. In line with this commitment, two Agusta A‑109S Trekker helicopters were commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force fleet.
Minister of Defence Mohammad Badaru Abubakar affirmed that these initiatives aim to equip Nigeria’s military with modern hardware while fostering self-reliance and national development.
President Tinubu stated, “A well-equipped military is essential for preserving our democracy and safeguarding Nigeria’s long-term stability,” underlining that these investments are central to national security and economic growth.
