The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has announced that it has disbursed over ₦1 billion as compensation to injured workers and families of deceased employees across the country, boosting household income and injecting fresh liquidity into the economy.
According to the Fund, the payments were made under the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS), which provides financial support to workers who suffer injuries, disabilities, or fatal incidents in the line of duty. NSITF said the disbursements reflect its renewed commitment to strengthening social security and protecting the nation’s workforce.
Management explained that the funds have directly supported thousands of beneficiaries, including medical reimbursements, disability benefits, death benefits, and ongoing rehabilitation programs. The intervention has not only offered relief to affected families but also contributed to economic activity by increasing purchasing power at the household level.
NSITF further emphasized that recent reforms within the organization aimed at improving service delivery, transparency, and prompt claims processing have significantly enhanced public confidence in the ECS.
The Fund reaffirmed its commitment to expanding coverage, increasing awareness among employers and employees, and ensuring that Nigeria’s workforce receives timely support in cases of workplace emergencies.
