Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has presented the ₦492.8 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Ondo State House of Assembly, describing it as the “Budget of Economic Consolidation.” The budget emphasizes strategic investments aimed at sustaining development and fostering economic growth across the state.
The proposed budget allocates ₦281.99 billion (57.2%) for capital expenditure and ₦210.8 billion (42.8%) for recurrent expenses, highlighting a focus on development-oriented spending. Governor Aiyedatiwa outlined key priorities, including infrastructure expansion, human capital development, health, education, and food security, alongside broader socio-economic transformation initiatives.
Addressing potential revenue risks, the Governor noted challenges such as changes in the VAT sharing formula and the state’s reliance on federally shared revenues. He called on the House of Assembly to expedite consideration of the budget to ensure timely implementation of critical programs.
In response, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly commended the Governor for presenting the budget promptly and assured full legislative support for its passage.
The 2026 budget marks a deliberate shift from “restoration” to “consolidation” of previous development efforts, signaling the administration’s commitment to building a stronger economic foundation for Ondo State. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
