The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned the call for foreign intervention in Nigeria made by the new factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki. Speaking to the press amid his party’s internal crisis, Turaki urged foreign powers to intervene to protect democracy and prevent alleged “Christian genocide” in the country—a move the APC describes as reckless and unpatriotic.
In a statement signed by Felix Morka, CON, National Publicity Secretary of the APC, the party criticised Turaki’s approach, noting that Nigerians expected him to initiate dialogue and peace-building among warring PDP factions. Instead, the APC said, Turaki’s first official act was to seek foreign intervention, which the party called a dangerous threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty and national security.
The APC further highlighted that during the PDP’s 16 years in power, no similar call for foreign involvement was made, emphasizing that Turaki’s statement reflects the faction’s incapacity to manage its internal crisis. The party warned that such calls represent a “final certification” of the PDP’s disintegration and urged the international community to dismiss it as a distraction from the opposition’s failures.
Concluding the statement, the APC appealed to Nigerians to remain steadfast in support of the party and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the government continues to pursue national progress, stability, and prosperity.
