ISWAP Abducts 13 Teenage Farmers in Fresh Wave of Attacks Across Northern Nigeria

Thirteen teenage female farmers were abducted on Sunday by members of the Islamic State West African Province in Mussa District, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, confirmed the incident, stating that the girls were seized while working on their farmland, deepening fears over the worsening security situation in rural communities.

The kidnapping comes less than a week after the mass abductions of students from Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School Maga in Kebbi State and St. Mary’s Secondary and Primary School in Niger State. These coordinated attacks were accompanied by a deadly assault on a church in Kwara State, where two people were killed and dozens abducted, signalling a troubling surge in targeted terrorism across multiple states.

Amid rising international concern, United States President Donald Trump recently warned of possible military action over what he described as the persecution of Christians by radical Islamist groups in Nigeria, a claim the Nigerian government has rejected, insisting the crisis is more complex than portrayed.
