The Federal Government is weighing a redesign of the Lekki Deep Seaport access road that could replace a proposed 3-kilometre bridge with lagoon backfilling. Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, said the lagoon in question is non-flowing, making backfilling a potentially feasible alternative.
The option is now under review by the Federal Government, project contractor China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), the Dangote Group, and the Lagos State Government.
The access road forms part of a 50-kilometre dual carriageway and includes other major bridge structures in its original design.
So far, the government has funded 30% of the project, while CHEC will finance the remaining 70% under an EPC+F model, to be repaid through toll revenue.
Umahi reaffirmed that the 25-kilometre stretch linking the seaport to Epe and Ijebu-Ode remains on track for delivery within 21 months. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
