Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on government institutions, including the legislature and judiciary, technology companies, civil society, and all stakeholders to take decisive action in making digital spaces safe, inclusive, and respectful for everyone.

Delivering her message to mark the 2025 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, themed “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls,” the First Lady highlighted the urgent need to tackle the rising threat of online abuse, harassment, extortion, and exploitation targeting women and girls.

Expressing solidarity with survivors and advocates working to end gender-based violence, she emphasized that violence, whether offline or online, undermines the dignity, safety, and potential of women and girls. She stressed that digital platforms should encourage genuine human connection, support learning, and enhance productivity, rather than generate fear.
