Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja from Luanda, Angola, after successfully representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 7th African Union–European Union (AU–EU) Summit. He had earlier participated in the 2025 Group of 20 (G20) Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he delivered the President’s speech and engagements on global economic and security matters.
In Angola, Vice President Shettima presented President Tinubu’s statement calling for Africa to secure permanent seats with veto powers on the United Nations Security Council and urging comprehensive reforms of global governance. The President also tasked the European Union to work alongside African partners on peace and security initiatives, emphasizing African-led frameworks as a path to sustainable stability across the continent.
At the G20 Summit, President Tinubu highlighted the need for a fairer global financial system, value addition for Africa’s critical minerals, and the establishment of global ethical standards for Artificial Intelligence. He noted that current multilateral frameworks no longer reflect the complexities of today’s world and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to advancing peace, security, and democratic governance in Africa and globally.
