The Federal Government has announced that the Single Travel Emergency Passport (STEP) will officially launch in January 2026. The new document, introduced by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), will replace the existing Emergency Travel Certificate.
STEP is a digital, single-entry emergency passport designed for Nigerians abroad who lose or cannot access their regular passports. It can be obtained remotely using a mobile device, eliminating the need to visit embassies or consulates.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the initiative is part of ongoing reforms to modernize identity management and improve travel documentation for Nigerians worldwide. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
