Tinubu Honours Late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi with Renaming of FUMS Azare

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renaming of the Federal University of Medical Sciences (FUMS), Azare, Bauchi State, in honour of the late renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
The President announced the decision during a condolence visit to Bauchi State, where he paid tribute to the late cleric, describing his passing as a great loss not only to Bauchi State but to Nigeria as a whole. Tinubu said the renaming of the institution was meant to immortalise Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s exceptional contributions to Islamic scholarship, education, peace, and national unity.
With the approval, the university will now be known as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University of Health Sciences, Azare.
President Tinubu noted that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a symbol of tolerance, humility, and service to humanity, whose influence cut across religious, ethnic, and regional boundaries. According to him, naming a federal institution after the cleric reflects the Federal Government’s recognition of individuals who devoted their lives to the moral and intellectual development of society.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed appreciation to the President for the honour, describing it as a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to teaching, spiritual guidance, and community development. He said the gesture would further inspire future generations to uphold the values exemplified by the late scholar.
Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi was a prominent leader of the Tijjaniyya Islamic movement and was widely respected within and outside Nigeria for his commitment to religious education, peaceful coexistence, and social harmony.
