Female rapper Nicki Minaj made a surprise appearance on Sunday at a conservative gathering in Arizona, where attendees were memorializing late activist Charlie Kirk. Speaking at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest convention, Minaj openly praised President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, describing them as “role models” for young men and applauding what she called their heart, relatability and leadership.
Interviewed on stage by Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, Minaj addressed her newly found support for Trump, despite having condemned him in the past. She also spoke about her public stance against violence targeting Christians in Nigeria and took a swipe at California Governor Gavin Newsom, mocking him with the nickname “New-scum.” During the event, Erika Kirk, who has taken over leadership of the influential conservative youth organization, thanked Minaj for what she described as courage in the face of backlash from the entertainment industry.
Minaj dismissed criticism from Hollywood, saying she was tired of being pushed around and that expressing independent views has become controversial because people no longer think for themselves.
